The knit along requires intarsia knitting skill. I have not done intarsia in over 15 years and remember how much of a pain it was then with 30 or more bobbins hanging off the back of my work. This project will be much easier since there are only three colors to work with and maybe up to 5 bobbins to manage. I will post a picture of my current progress when I get a chance. The video I am including in this post shows the basics of intarsia knitting. As long as you cross your yarns over properly and lock them in place you will not have any trouble with holes in your knitting.
